Getting started

Accessing the tool

The application is available at:

https://h2oseg-ter.icradev.cat/?lang=en

No sign-in or software installation is required. We recommend using an up-to-date version of Firefox, Chrome, Edge or an equivalent browser.

Your first simulation

When the application opens, it displays the reference scenario. For an initial exploration:

1. Select the simulation duration.
2. Keep the scenario’s initial values.
3. Press Apply.
4. Observe the colours of the river reaches and nodes.
5. Click a reach or node to view its information.
6. Switch between the period summary and a specific month.

Period summary and monthly view

The tool provides two main types of view:

Annual or multi-year summary

When viewing a summary for one or more years, the colours show how often an incident occurs, for example:

• Number of months in which the environmental flow requirement is not met.
• Number of months in which a demand cannot be met.

This view is useful for identifying persistent problems.

Specific month

When a month is selected, the legend becomes binary. Each element simply indicates whether, during that month, it:

• Meets or fails to meet the environmental flow requirement.
• Meets or fails to meet the demand.

This view is useful for studying specific seasonal situations.

Simple example

Try the following exercise:

1. Run the reference scenario.
2. Reduce precipitation by 20%.
3. Run the simulation again.
4. Compare:
   • reservoir inflow;
   • final stored volume;
   • reaches that fail to meet the environmental flow requirement;
   • unmet demands.

Tip

When interpreting a scenario, it is best to compare it with the reference scenario rather than analysing its values in isolation.
